Amruth Lalji High School(closed since 2023)

Amruth Lalji High School, located in Kelarai Parish, was a vision realized by Rev. Fr. J.B. Alvaris in 1979, culminating in the completion of its building. Originally starting in 1972 within a small hall, the school derives its name "Amrithlalji," meaning St. Joachim in Hindi, from Rev. Fr. Alvaris. Operated by Ursuline Franciscan nuns, the school has been dedicated to providing exceptional education, with many students achieving significant positions in society thanks to the efforts of Sisters like Sr. Nomita, Sr. Flavia, Sr. Ancilla, Sr. Leena Rodrigues, Sr. Therezia, Sr. Letitia DSilva, and Sr. Anitha. Over the years, Amruth Lalji High School has witnessed numerous developments and successes until its closure in 2023 due to declining admissions, reflective of broader trends favoring English medium education over Kannada medium schools.

St. Joachim Higher Primary School, Kelarai(closed since 2019)

St. Joachim Primary School (Kannada Medium), established in 1937 in Bondanthila, Kelarai under the Neermarga Panchayat, began as a modest initiative by Father Gracian Mathew Goveas, the Chaplain of Kelarai. Initially housed within the church premises, thanks to the generous donation of land by Mr. Kaithan Lobo, the school later expanded with a separate building constructed by Father J.B. Alvaris nearby. The Ursuline Nuns took on the responsibility of educating the local children, playing a pivotal role in the school’s development.

Over the years, with the support of Parish Priests and the local community, St. Joachim School became renowned for its commitment to education, discipline, and equality. The school nurtured a vibrant student body, actively involved in sports and extracurricular activities. Many of its alumni went on to achieve distinction in various fields, making significant contributions to society.

However, after serving the community for 75 years, the school faced declining enrollment and, sadly, closed its doors in 2019. The legacy of St. Joachim Primary School endures as a testament to its dedication to shaping young minds and fostering community spirit in Kelarai.
